IRIS is a 3D drone detection radar developed by Robin Radar Systems. It supports 360° detection, tracking, and classification using FMCW technology combined with Micro-Doppler and deep neural networks (DNN). The system can be deployed at fixed locations, relocated between sites, or operated on moving vehicles when equipped with the optional On-The-Move (OTM) package.
This document includes product information from the Product Sheet, along with company information, optional systems, and application examples from the presentation. It also includes a comparison of differing specifications and a glossary for use in Thai-language documentation.
IRIS Product Information

-
Provides 360° azimuth coverage and 60° elevation coverage, delivering real-time 3D situational awareness during both daytime and nighttime operations.
-
Classifies drones within seconds, including fixed-wing and hovering drones. The documentation states that Micro-Doppler and DNN improve classification accuracy and reduce false alarms.
-
Integrates with existing systems and other sensors through interoperable interfaces, providing precise target cueing for additional sensors.
-
Can be deployed in less than 15 minutes on buildings, tripods, or vehicles, and can be relocated and redeployed.
-
Two back-to-back sensors provide a one-second update interval and support Micro-Doppler classification.
-
The Product Sheet states that Robin works with more than 25 partners and system integrators, with applications involving military and police forces, airports, prisons, major events, oil rigs, and power plants.

Coverage Area
With 360° azimuth coverage, 60° elevation coverage, and a 5 km instrumented range, the Product Sheet specifies a coverage area of approximately 78 km². Coverage can be expanded by networking multiple radars.
The diagrams on page 4 show separate detection and classification coverage envelopes for a medium-sized target weighing 3 kg. The axes represent ground range and altitude in metres. Range should therefore be considered together with target altitude and environmental conditions. The stated coverage area should not be interpreted as a guarantee of detecting every target throughout that area.
IRIS Capabilities Described in the Presentation
The presentation states that IRIS has achieved Technology Readiness Level 9 (TRL 9) and has been fielded operationally. Examples include more than 200 systems with the Ukrainian Air Force, more than 100 systems with the Netherlands Ministry of Defence, and deployments in the United States and various countries across Europe and the Middle East.
-
Specifically designed for drone detection, using Micro-Doppler combined with a DNN-based AI model for target classification.
-
Supports the detection of hovering drones, FPV drones, and targets described in the source as “dark / tethered drones.” The term “dark” is not defined in detail.
-
Designed for straightforward installation and operation, with automatic calibration and alignment. Supports fixed, relocatable, and on-the-move deployments.
-
Manufactured in Europe. The presentation refers to a “dual-use license,” delivery times measured in months, and a produce-to-stock approach. A production figure of “250+” is stated without a corresponding time period.

| Frequency band | X-Band: 8.9, 9.2, and 9.6 GHz |
| Update interval | 1 second |
| Instrumented range | 5 km in Standard Mode / 12 km in Long-Range Mode |

Ranges Stated in the Presentation
| Target category | Detection range | Classification range |
|---|---|---|
| Small target, such as DJI Phantom | 3.4 km | 1.3 km |
| Medium target, such as DJI Inspire | 4.0 km | 2.0 km |
| Example targets such as Shahed and Orlan in Long-Range Mode | 6–9 km, as listed in the source table* | Not separately specified |
Standard Mode provides a stated instrumented range of 5 km for Class 1 Nano, Micro, and Mini targets. Long-Range Mode provides a stated instrumented range of 12 km to support early warning and detection of larger fixed-wing targets. The presentation states that performance is continuously improved through software updates.
Source clarification: The table on page 14 uses the wording “FPV such as Shahed, Orlan” and gives a range of 6–9 km without clearly distinguishing whether this refers to detection, tracking, or classification. The target names and range should therefore be retained as stated in the source, without implying that all FPV drones can be detected at this range.
Micro-Doppler Classification
IRIS analyses Micro-Doppler signatures together with DNN processing. The documentation states that the AI model is embedded in the radar and is used to classify targets and reduce false alarms. Example images compare the signal signatures of quadcopter drones, birds, helicopters, and fixed-wing aircraft.
Drone Viewer and Interfaces
Drone Viewer is an application for displaying radar information. Screenshots in the presentation show a map, target tracks, target classifications, and drone detection alerts. The interfaces page lists SAPIENT, XML Interface, ASTERIX, and TAK, alongside NPSA and MIL-STD-810H markings.
IRIS is designed to integrate with command-and-control (C2) systems. It therefore forms one component of a broader solution and can be combined with sensors and equipment from other manufacturers to meet different operational requirements. The presentation also shows a network of distribution partners and compatible sensor providers.
Multi-Radar Networking
Up to four IRIS radars can be networked using centralised target tracking and a shared database. This expands coverage and helps maintain coverage in areas affected by obstacles.
Information can be displayed through Drone Viewer, while target track data can be transmitted through XML, ASTERIX, or SAPIENT to third-party C2 or C-UAS systems.
